Mộc Laser Shop turns an Etsy orders export into welded, checked laser sheets with packing slips. This page covers the export, the review queue, the checks, fonts and licences, and what to do when something looks wrong.
1. Download your orders from Etsy
Laser Shop reads the file Etsy gives you, exactly as it downloads. You never copy names into a spreadsheet first.
- On the Etsy website, open Shop Manager. The download is not in the Etsy Seller app.
- Go to Settings › Options and open the Download Data tab.
- In the Orders section, set CSV Type to Order Items. The other type, “Orders”, has one row per order and no personalisation, so Laser Shop cannot use it.
- Pick the month and year, then select Download CSV. The file is named like
EtsySoldOrderItems2026-10.csv.
- In Laser Shop, open Orders & production and drop the file on the box, or select it. Do not open it in a spreadsheet and save it again first: that can change accents and long order numbers.
Only the orders still to make. A month’s file also holds the orders you have already shipped. Laser Shop leaves out every line Etsy has marked shipped and says how many it left out. Select Include them to make them anyway, for a remake for example. Mark orders shipped on Etsy as you send them, and the next run picks up exactly the rest.
Early in a month, orders paid late last month are in last month’s file. Run that file first, then this month’s.
Shopify: Orders › Export, choose the orders and “CSV for Excel”. Line-item properties such as “Name: Ava” are read as the personalisation, and properties whose name starts with an underscore are ignored. Orders marked fulfilled are left out, as on Etsy.
Any other CSV works when it has an order column and a column named Personalization, Personalisation, Custom Text or Engraving. Comma, semicolon and tab separators are all read.
2. The review queue
Most orders are ready as soon as the file is read. Only the ones that need a person are listed:
- Emojis were removed, because a laser cannot cut them.
- Missing or extra text: a required field is empty, or text is left over that the template has no place for.
- Too long for the piece, or a character the font cannot draw.
- Counts that do not match: the order is for 6 place cards but the guest list holds 5 names.
- Several names for one piece, which may be meant for one piece or for more than one.
Fix the text in place, change the template, font or size, or select Looks right, cut it. J and K move through the queue.
3. Products, templates and materials
Each listing in the file is matched to a template from its title (for example “cake topper”, “ornament”, “place card”). Change it once under Products and the choice is remembered by SKU or title. Each listing can also go to its own material, so ornaments on plywood and place cards on acrylic come out on separate sheets in one run.
A size, font or frame the buyer picked in the listing’s options (for example “Size: 16 inch”) is used for that order.
4. The checks
- Welded and readable. Script letters are joined into one piece; any letter that stays loose gets a small bridge, which the preview reports. A name that would lose its shape when cut (a filled-in e, an i that reads as l) is refused rather than drawn badly, and the run tries the next script or size if you allow it.
- The laser check. Every piece and every sheet goes through the rules of Mộc’s Laser SVG Checker: closed hairline cuts, no doubled lines, bridges and holes wide enough, inner cuts before the outline. A piece that fails is held back with the reason; you can cut it anyway only by giving a reason, which goes into the cut list.
- Every order accounted for. Order lines in must equal pieces on sheets, each exactly once, with the right quantity. Skipped, doubled or unreadable names block the download until each is fixed or acknowledged.
These are software checks, not a test cut. Cut one piece of each material before a full sheet: kerf, focus and power still matter.
5. What is in the ZIP
sheets/sheet-N.svg: one cut file per sheet, in millimetres. Red hairlines are cut, black fills are engrave, blue lines are the order numbers to score on the scrap.
sheets/sheet-N.dxf (Pro and Shop): the same sheet as DXF R12, layers CUT, ENGRAVE and SCORE.
sheets/sheet-N-map.svg: a numbered map for people. Do not cut it.
parts/: one file per piece, if you want to cut a single one again.
cut-list.csv, order-map.csv: which piece is where; the order map is sorted by order for packing.
packing-slips.pdf: the sheet maps, then one slip per order with each piece’s text, a drawing of it and its sheet and position.
check-report.txt: the result of every check.
6. Fonts and licences
You can sell the pieces you cut and the cut files you make with any of these fonts. That includes one-off orders, batches, and SVG or DXF files sold as designs. What you cannot do is sell or give away the font itself.
Laser Shop never sends a font file to your browser. It holds the outlines of the letters, converted from the original fonts, and draws each name from them. Every font is free for commercial use under one of two open licences:
- SIL Open Font License 1.1 covers Pacifico (The Pacifico Project Authors, design by Vernon Adams), Dancing Script (Pablo Impallari), Great Vibes (Robert Leuschke), Cookie (Ania Kruk), Montserrat (Julieta Ulanovsky), Playfair Display (Claus Eggers Sørensen), Bree Serif (TypeTogether) and Quicksand (Andrew Paglinawan). The licence covers the font, not what you make with it: its own FAQ says products and artwork made with an OFL font are not bound by it.
- Apache License 2.0 covers Yellowtail (Brian J. Bonislawsky, Astigmatic). It allows commercial use and derived work.
Your products do not need a font credit. If you sell cut files, it is good practice, though not required, to say which font a design uses. Do not call a file “Dancing Script”, “Playfair Display”, “Cookie”, “Bree”, “Bree Serif” or “Quicksand” as though it were the font: those names are reserved by their designers.
All the fonts come from the Google Fonts collection. The versions and copyright lines are recorded for every font, and the full licence texts are available on request from the contact form.
7. Troubleshooting
The five most common reasons an order needs a look
Most orders are ready as soon as the file is read. These are the ones that come up most, with the message you see in the review queue and what to do.
- “The order is for 6 pieces but the text holds 5 names.” The guest list and the quantity disagree. Often the buyer typed the number in the box instead of changing the quantity, or left a name out. Correct the list in the piece’s editor if you can tell what was meant. If you cannot, ask the buyer through Etsy and select Leave out of this run for now. The order is then listed under “Every order accounted for” until you acknowledge it, so it cannot be forgotten.
- “Extra text … has no field in this template.” The box holds more than goes on the piece: an instruction (“please make it pink”, “see my message”), a second line the template has no place for, or a whole sentence. Delete everything that is not cut, and put the colour or size in the piece’s options. If the text should be on the piece, choose a template with a second line, such as the cake topper or the family sign.
- “Name has 19 characters; this template takes up to 14.” The text is too long to stay readable at that size. Choose a larger size, or ask the buyer for a shorter form. Laser Shop never squeezes the letters: below about 6 mm, the holes in e, a and o fill in when cut.
- “No personalisation in this order line.” The box was empty, or Etsy wrote “Not requested on this item”. Check the order on Etsy for a note from the buyer, then type the text into the piece. If there is nothing to cut, select Leave out of this run, then acknowledge it under “Every order accounted for”, so the order is recorded as settled rather than skipped.
- “Emojis were removed” or “the font cannot draw ‘ő’”. A laser cannot cut an emoji, and not every font has every accent. Check that the text still reads as the buyer meant. For a missing accent, pick another font in the editor: the preview shows the result before anything is cut.
After any fix, select Looks right, cut it. The piece moves to ready, and J and K move to the next one.
Other problems
- “This is Etsy’s Sold Orders CSV”: you downloaded the order-level file. Download the type “Order Items” instead (step 3 above).
- “Every order line in this file is already marked shipped”: everything in this month’s file has been sent. Select Include them to remake one, or download the month you need.
- Accents look wrong (é instead of é): a spreadsheet saved the file again in another encoding. Download it again from Etsy and drop it in unchanged.
- A name was refused as unreadable: choose a larger size or another script in the piece’s editor. Bold scripts such as Pacifico keep small letters open best, and thin scripts suit large signs.
- A piece does not fit the sheet: pick a larger material sheet in Shop settings, or a smaller size for that piece.
- The download button is greyed out: open “Every order accounted for” and settle or acknowledge each item listed.
- Something else: write from Help › Contact in the app, or to [email protected]. Please leave out buyers’ names and addresses.
