How to write Santiago, letter by letter

Santiago has 8 letters and 14 strokes in all. On the worksheet each stroke starts at a green dot, and the first copy of the name numbers the strokes in this order:

  1. S 1 stroke. Start above the middle on the right and slant down to the left to below the middle.
  2. a 2 strokes. 1. Start just under the middle line on the right, curve counterclockwise and stop just above the bottom line. 2. Start on the dashed middle line on the right and pull straight down to the bottom line.
  3. n 2 strokes. 1. Start on the dashed middle line on the left and pull straight down to the bottom line. 2. Start just under the middle line on the left, curve clockwise and stop on the bottom line.
  4. t 2 strokes. 1. Start at the top line, curve counterclockwise and stop on the bottom line. 2. Start on the dashed middle line on the left and slide across to the right along the dashed middle line.
  5. i 2 strokes. 1. Start on the dashed middle line and pull straight down to the bottom line. 2. Add the dot.
  6. a the same as before: 2 strokes.
  7. g 2 strokes. 1. Start just under the middle line on the right, curve counterclockwise and stop just above the bottom line. 2. Start on the dashed middle line on the right, curve clockwise and stop below the bottom line.
  8. o 1 stroke. Start on the dashed middle line and go all the way round counterclockwise.

Tips for practising Santiago

  • Only the first letter, S, is a capital: it starts at the top line. The rest are lowercase.
  • The tall letter t reaches up to the top line, like the capital.
  • g drops below the bottom line: the faint dotted line under each row shows how far.
  • a, g and o start with the same round movement as c: begin near the top and go counterclockwise.
  • Santiago is a long name. Try the small letter size so it fits on one line, or start with the first letter page.
  • The dot on i or j comes last, after the line.
  • For the very first tries, print the trace and fade page: the letters get lighter row by row until only the start dots are left.
