How to write Lincoln, letter by letter

Lincoln has 7 letters and 11 strokes in all. On the worksheet each stroke starts at a green dot, and the first copy of the name numbers the strokes in this order:

  1. L 2 strokes. 1. Start at the top line on the left and pull straight down to the bottom line. 2. Start on the bottom line on the left and slide across to the right along the bottom line.
  2. i 2 strokes. 1. Start on the dashed middle line and pull straight down to the bottom line. 2. Add the dot.
  3. n 2 strokes. 1. Start on the dashed middle line on the left and pull straight down to the bottom line. 2. Start just under the middle line on the left, curve clockwise and stop on the bottom line.
  4. c 1 stroke. Start just under the middle line on the right, curve counterclockwise and stop just above the bottom line.
  5. o 1 stroke. Start on the dashed middle line and go all the way round counterclockwise.
  6. l 1 stroke. Start at the top line and pull straight down to the bottom line.
  7. n the same as before: 2 strokes.

Tips for practising Lincoln

  • Only the first letter, L, is a capital: it starts at the top line. The rest are lowercase.
  • The tall letter l reaches up to the top line, like the capital.
  • c and o start with the same round movement as c: begin near the top and go counterclockwise.
  • Lincoln is a long name. Try the small letter size so it fits on one line, or start with the first letter page.
  • The dot on i or j comes last, after the line.
  • For the very first tries, print the trace and fade page: the letters get lighter row by row until only the start dots are left.
